It is now late winter here in Northern Nevada where the weather is anyone’s guess.  Snow one week, 65 degrees the next!   There may not be the usual excitement of breeding, shearing or babies at this time of year, but there is still plenty to do with our alpacas! There are nails and teeth to trim, blood to be drawn for various tests and registrations, halter training, etc.  We will be testing progesterone on all of our girls we bred in 2007 to make sure they are still pregnant.  If we find ones that aren’t pregnant, we will do early spring breedings.

We have been weaning the 2007 babies (where has the time gone?) and there doesn’t seem to be too much stress.  The kids take it harder than the moms, but having other young ones to keep them company helps.

Here are some comparison pictures to remind us of how big our babies have gotten!
