Update 8/25/2007
Wow, another two weeks have passed us by. The cria are coming pretty steady now. McKenzie was born August 17th. She is a gorgeous medium brown just like her mother TIA Maria. Six days later Victory(Peruvian VICTOR Grandson) was born. “Vic” for short, is the first of our Falcon cria. We have been waiting for this cria for 18 months now and we are certainly not disappointed. At 17.5 lbs Vic was up and nursing within 20 minute on Cupid, his mom.
The very next day (Falcon’s 4th birthday and my 50th birthday) Leilani was born. The second Falcon cria in as many days, Leilani weighed in at exactly the same weight as her half brother Vic. Both cria are white just like their moms Brook and Cupid, and their dad Falcon. Both of these cria have extremely soft fleece. I would guess that both are in the 16 micron range, but it will be 10 months before we have the official numbers. This is exactly what we were hoping for when we invested in Falcon. He is making incredible improvements to the females he is bred to. Notice the pictures of both of the Falcon cria. They appear to be carbon copies of each other. At four years old Falcon will be adding softness, crimp, size and the all important Peruvian Victor and Accoyo bloodlines for years to come.

Another male is coming to visit for a few months. Accoyo Juan Pablo will be arriving around September 1st. A tall, proud, full Accoyo Vengador grandson, Accoyo Juan Pablo will add another superb dimension to our already diverse gene pool.

Breeding is in full swing now. With breeding comes all the unusual behavior that testosterone and progesterone tends to produce. The boys are fighting, the kids are imitating the grown-ups and the girls are just weird. Ahhh… another day on the ranch.
On a separate note, National Alpaca Farm Day is quickly approaching. Alpaca breeders across the nation will be opening up their doors(ours are always open) to the general public in order to raise awareness of these magnificent creatures. Read more about the event here.
